Active 4 Life

The Aim

To engage children who have been identified as carrying out less than 2 hours of structured physical activity beyond the school day ,or who are at risk of overweight or obesity in regular physical activity, targeting areas of disadvantaged in Leeds.

To build confidence, self-esteem and motivation of children and young people to become involved in physical activity, and inspire an enthusiasm for lifelong physical activity.

Regular after school sessions are established across Middleton and Beeston primary schools to build skills, fitness, motivation and self-esteem particularly for overweight / inactive participants

The Method

Regular community provision and support for children and their families is provided via the implementation of sessions educating on the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

In partnership with other agencies the Leeds United Foundation engage parents and families in healthy lifestyle messages through Healthy Living Days and Galas.

Regular in school sessions are delivered to over 200 children and the project also reaches out to over 100 children via community sessions. Holiday courses are targeted to over 100 young people, alongside numerous taster sessions, short projects and in school sessions that engage over 500 children.
