Futsal Scholarship Kicks Off with Festival

The New Leeds United Foundation Futsal Scholars got their first taste of the new Futsal and Education Scholarship and were treated to a Futsal Festival at the new Arena in Leeds. Over 30 teams from professional clubs were present for a full day of Futsal.

All 22 Leeds United Foundation Scholars took part and experienced at first hand the dimension of the futsal game. The scholars pitted their skills against other scholars from clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bradford, Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Sheffield throughout the day.

Michael Kinsey, Futsal Coordinator said “The festival was set up as a way of welcoming the scholars onto the programme and letting them see what will be in store for them over the next 2 years. It was an excellent atmosphere and it was great to see LUTV and Yorkshire Radio come down to interview and put the scholar’s media skills to the test”.

Michael added, “The scholars adapted to the futsal game extremely quickly. Improvements in the players technically ability could be seen throughout the day. It’s going to be a fantastic time for the scholars and The Leeds United Foundation.”

The Leeds United Foundation Scholars are currently half way through their induction week with the programme ready to start next week. The Scholars will be engage for 16 hours a week, 8 hours of study towards a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and 8 hours towards training and match days.
